This is the one episode that I remember the most from Kolchak's original run. Of course technically, it's far weaker seeing it now than I recall with a really lame ending. It was an interesting concept that could be a worthy remake with the tools available now. Even with it's faults, "Chopper" is still effective in certain areas. I still remember the scene where one of the survivors is packing to leave town when a motorcycle's engine roars past her place...then silence...followed by a knock on the door. I really think my hair stood on end right then!Rolandnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3061398142362448372.post-12574485091121837972012-01-25T12:54:14.090-08:002012-01-25T12:54:14.090-08:00Chopper was remade about 10 years ago as an episod...Chopper was remade about 10 years ago as an episode of "The Chronicle" TV series. This is THE Kolchak episode that I remember more than any other,it left a huge impression on me as a kid. I can recall seeing this perfectly at one of my parents friends houses, the ambience of the living room and the decor are still pretty strong after all these years.

The effects are certainly Bill Rebane grade but to see a headless biker decapitating people in the era of the Fonz and bad variety shows was/is a welcome sight. This is the episode with one of my favorite lines ("all that's missing is the croutons" in reference to a corpses greasy scalp).

If someone ever tried to tackle Kolchak AGAIN,this is the episode that could be redone and trump the original with modern FX work and TVs more relaxed standards on gory mayhem.

I must also add that USED CARS is probably the most underrated comedy of all time.Tommyrothttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14486791211579788689noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3061398142362448372.post-82140590104052920042012-01-25T09:08:09.302-08:002012-01-25T09:08:09.302-08:00This was never one of my favorites (that doesn'...This was never one of my favorites (that doesn't mean I don't love it like one of my kids), but I've grown to appreciate it much more over the years. Yeah, the headless biker looks pretty silly, alright. A case of the idea itself far outweighing the actual execution of that idea. But what the hay, it's pretty classic. Everyone remembers the headless motorcycle guy!Doug Khttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10796333627043218622noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3061398142362448372.post-81871967081884340302012-01-25T07:49:25.114-08:002012-01-25T07:49:25.114-08:00I kept flashing on the old Maytag commercials that...I kept flashing on the old Maytag commercials that featured Jesse White as the "lonely" repair man who never gets called. In this episode, Jesse plays that first Cook County Warehouse guard - bet he wishes nothing ever happened on THIS job!

Normally I'm not a fan of CGI, but it's a shame that option didn't exist when this episode was made, since it really would have helped sell the "monster" of the week. As it is, there's just no way to disguise that it's a normal-sized man under the "headless" costume.

Still, a lot of fun ... and one of the show's more outrageous monsters!grgstv338https://www.blogger.com/profile/03532739459643834686noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3061398142362448372.post-29363431706630254102012-01-25T07:13:42.546-08:002012-01-25T07:13:42.546-08:00Am I the only one who kept flashing on Oscar Madis...Am I the only one who kept flashing on Oscar Madison with all of Tony's ulcer antics?Matthew Bradleyhttp://bradleyonfilm.wordpress.com/noreply@blogger.com
